Their relatively small production of normale and riserva Vino Nobiles exhibit the deep essence of the local terroir, and are priced very well. Their Rosso and Brunello offerings are superb, and their San Pio Supertuscan of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon shows quite well. The lovely terroir of the area is no doubt sweetened by the heavenly chant rising up from the San Antimo abbey in the valley below. Founded in 1999 by American Frank Grace, Molino di Grace is breaking the status quo with two awards in 2004 from the prestigious Gambero Rosso: winner of the Emerging Winery of the Year award and the first new producer to win the coveted "Tre Bicchiere" (3 glasses) award for their powerful pure Sangiovese Gratius. Frank and Gerhard are showing us what stellar wines the Chianti region can produce, leveraging both ancient tradition and the best in modern methods. Formerly a convent for over a thousand years, Giovanna Tiezzi and Stefano Borsa have now made Pàcina their family home and are producing distinctive wines of Chianti Colli Senesi and a 50-50 Syrah/Sangiovese blend called La Malena. They lovingly care for the land using organic methods, and receive many guests throughout the year with cooking lessons at their agriturismo.
