Avignonesi Desiderio 2010

$52.70

Merlot fans will rejoice when they pop the cork on Avignonesi’s Desiderio. That’s Italian for “desire,” and this wine is aptly named. I am often on the lookout for a bottle of Desiderio while dining in the Tuscan countryside, it pairs wonderfully with the famed Bistecca Fiorentina.

Made from grapes grown in the famed La Selva parcels just a few miles from Lake Trasimeno in the Cortona DOC, Desiderio picks up the classic scents of wild fennel, herbs & spices on the nose. On the palate there’s ripe blackberry, black cherry with a bit of dried marjoram and hints of clove and cocoa from the time in oak.

Desiderio pairs best with grilled meats, including beef steaks, pork sausages with polenta and veal chops. While great with food, don’t hesitate to enjoy this vino all by itself.

The folks at Avignonesi have a nice website if you want to learn more about their wonderful wines.
