Getting the uber-limited Cinque Terre Sciacchetrà to the USA is just this side of impossible. Until now.
Cinque Terre (how to say it) fans will swoon over this one. If you’ve been to Vernazza, Monterosso, or one of the other 3 towns, you probably know this amazing sweet wine. I’ve worked some magic and sourced a very limited number of bottles of the 2015 vintage of Sciacchetrà (how to say it) from the Cinque Terre Co-Op.
This is a divine Sciacchetrà, with a glorious amber color and intense nose of baked apricots, dried figs, candied orange and a hint of Mediterranean herbs. While it’s sweet and has some alcoholic punch, the acidity level balances it all out with a lovely, long finish. Drink this and you’ll know that you’re enjoying a true elixir of the gods.
Sciacchetrà pairs perfectly with good ol’ cantucci (think tiny biscotti) for an after dinner treat. It’s also is fantastic with hard cheeses including chunks of Parmigiano Reggiano, blue-veined sheep milk cheeses, and thin slices of pecorino romano.
