The 2013 Conterno Barbera Vigna Cerretta has a rich nose of raspberries, pomegranate and rhubarb. On the palate it starts with substantial minerality and opens up quickly with intense red fruits and vibrant acidity. Like the 2013 Francia, this could benefit from some additional time in the cellar.
Impatient people can pop a cork and pair it with rich, fatty dishes. My go-to pairings for Langhe Barbera are the classic Piemontesi dishes of vitello tonnato, agnolotti al plin, carne cruda (steak tartare), or veal pan-braised with Barolo.
