Imagine dining on the breakwater in Vernazza along the Cinque Terre. You're eating fresh fish just caught in the briny Mediterranean, enjoying some herby trofie al pesto, and drinking the local vino. This is that vino.

Getting wine from the Cinque Terre area is nearly impossible, but I have arranged to fly over enough to quench the thirst of some dedicated Vermentino fans.

Named after the ancient Etruscan and Roman port of Luni, Bosoni's Cantine Lunae produces a limited number of "Black Label" bottles from their finest grapes, just outside La Spezia along the Eastern Ligurian coast.  Don't confuse this with the cheaper "Grey Label" Vermentino. Grey is good, but Black is awesome.  Oh, and it's a Gambero Rosso "Tre Bicchieri" (3 glass) award wine.

Lunae's Vermentino bursts with grapefruit & lemon, honey, white flowers, and wild Mediterranean thyme. There's a pleasing saltiness that goes really well with Ligurian food; pair this with stuffed mussels, grilled or lemon marinated anchovies, Cioppino, and anything with pesto.

Buy up now, because I can't always get this in.
