Quintarelli’s Valpolicella Classico Superiore is the family’s extraordinary “mini Amarone” more reasonably priced and yet has many characteristics of their rightfully famous Amarone.
With half of the classic melange of grapes pressed as fresh fruit and the other half air-dried for 2 months in the local appassimento style, the blend of the two is macerated with the skins from their Amarone and left to do its magic. This wine sees 6 years in the giant Slavonian botte barrels before release.
This is a beautiful, full-bodied Valpolicella, rich with sweet tobacco, cocoa, dark cherries, and the scent of fresh herbs and lavender. There’s a pleasing hint of smoke on the lengthy finish.
