When I visit the trattorie of Rome, I always look for a tasty Cesanese del Piglio, the unofficial Roman Red that is much more satisfying than the Frascati white. Here’s one that is superb and crazy cheap for what you get.
A delightful, aromatic red made by natural winemaker Paolo Perinelli, this 100% Cesanese wine bursts with black cherries, red raspberries, marzipan and wild country sweet herbs. The finish on Paolo’s wine is sumptuously long.
Pair this with classic Roman pasta dishes like my porky favorite Bucatini all’Amatriciana, or pair it up with grilled sausages, roast wild boar, lentils with coriander, or pan-fried veal fillets.
