Accomplished musician turned Etna Rosso maestro Giuseppe Russo cultivates a few hectares of Nerello Mascalese just outside of Passopisciaro on the north slopes of Mount Etna.
Gisueppe's Feudo 2013 is another of his single-vineyard Etna Rosso cru's from the Feudo Contrada outside of Randazzo. Like his San Lorenzo cru, this one is polished with bright red cherry fruits, raspberries, and a fine dark earthiness and minerality. The luxurious finish is nearly endless.
Giuseppe is getting big-time attention as one of the best Etna producers, with his San Lorenzo cru wines regularly winning the Gambero Rosso 3 Bicchieri award, and folks like James Suckling and Jancis Robinson showering him with vinous superlatives. This is tiny-production Etna Rosso at its finest, with just 3,300 bottles made.
I have limited availability of this wine. If you're an Etna Rosso fan, I would recommend that you buy now, or collect all 3 of his wines (San Lorenzo, Feudo and Feudo di Mezzo).
Giuseppe is a fascinating man. You can read more about him in Robert Camuto's write-up. If you'd like to visit his cantina on your next trip to Sicily, just contact me.
