Four generations of the Paolini family have nurtured a tiny plot of land (just 8 acres) just outside the wine hill town of Montepulciano to produce an outstanding, natural Vino Nobile.
The family harvests their Sangiovese a bit later than most, when the grapes are slightly withered, resulting in a more intense and pronounced Vino Nobile with blackberries, plum jam, violets, vanilla, roasted fennel and cloves on the palate. Tannins are nicely balanced with acidity and fruit, with a lengthy finish.
Sergio's wine pairs well with Tuscan classics like grilled red meats (bistecca fiorentina), osso buco, game birds like roast pheasant or squab, and wild boar stew.
My Cortona Sommelier buddy Arnaldo Rossi turned me onto Sergio Paolini's grand 2010 vintage a few years back while on a wine tasting event tour here in the States. 2010 sold out fast, and now I'm lucky to have Sergio's delicious 2011 vintage now in stock. You'll only find Sergio's Luteraia in America here in our shop.
