Elio Ottin gets top awards year-after-year for his 4 flagship wines (this Torrette Superieur red wine and his Pinot Noir, Fumin, and Petite Arvine). I was lucky to be able to get his wines, direct from his cantina, upon release after tasting them just last summer.
Elio calls this wine “heroic and surly,” and for good reason. This blend of 3 indigenous grapes from the Val d’Aosta (Petit Rouge, Fumin, and Cornalin) is intense and exciting, with ripe blackberries, cherries and strawberries on the nose and palate. There’s an earthiness and lightly herbal texture on the medium finish that is truly divine.
