Produttori del Barbaresco is a winemaking cooperative with 50 families sharing their Nebbiolo grapes to make some of the best Barbaresco you can buy — and at a great price.
In 2012, the Produttori skipped the production of cru and riserva wines, and instead poured all of their best grapes into their Barbaresco normale vintage. The result is a top notch Barbaresco at a remarkably fair tariff.
I tasted the 2012 vintage at the Produttori cantina in May of 2016, and was impressed with this big, beautiful, floral vintage. Bing cherries and cranberries, rhubarb, tobacco and violets all present themselves well on the palate, with hints of nutmeg. As of my tasting, the tannins were quite firm and could use some time to mellow.
If you'd like to drink now, I'd pair this with a fatty cut of beef simply grilled over coals, or some pork blade steaks. I'm also dreaming of osso buco to pair with this, it would be fantastic.

Great podcast, I didn't understand much about the DOC/DOCG classification and learned some new stuff. Now I can buy Italian wines with an eye toward quality.Richard Gemelli
These folks certainly know their stuff. I asked them for suggestions on wineries to visit in Chianti, and they came back with a fantastic list of great places to visit. We had a great time. Bravo!Phil Bloomberg
Cortona Syrah is a real gem. Thanks for the recommendation Michael. This is like the Cote Rotie, at half the price!Bob Wang
