This is the perfect "spaghetti red", a quaffable Montepulciano you can whip out for simple meals, and at a price that's easy on the pocketbook.
Produced near Chieti in Abruzzo by a local co-op of grape growers, this Montepulciano is better than many Tuscan Sangiovese, and for a far cheaper price.
The nose is rich with blackberries, black cherries, and black olives, and on the palate you get a mouthful of dark fruits and herbal notes, with nice acidity and modest tannins.
Pair this simple red with anything from the grill — burgers, pork chops, simple steaks all go fine with this easy-going Montepulciano. Frankly I toss it back while eating a pepperoni, sausage and mushroom pizza or a big bowl of spaghetti with Bolognese Ragù.
Inventory is limited, so stock up and make it your "house wine." Salute!
