This is the perfect “spaghetti red”, a quaffable Montepulciano you can whip out for simple meals, and at a price that's easy on the pocketbook.
Produced near Chieti in Abruzzo by a local co-op of grape growers, this Montepulciano is better than many Tuscan Sangiovese, and for a far cheaper price.
The 2015 vintage is delicious, with a rich nose of black cherries & blackberries, and it bursts in the mouth with all those black fruits, a touch of herbs and dark earth, balanced acidity and pleasant tannins.
Pair this simple red with anything from the grill — burgers, pork chops, simple steaks all go fine with this easy-going Montepulciano. Frankly, I toss it back while eating a pepperoni, sausage and mushroom pizza or a big bowl of spaghetti with Bolognese Ragù.
