Description
A perennial “3 bicchiere” winner from Gambero Rosso, Roberto Voerzio and son Davide make arguably the most elegant Barolo, Barbera and Dolcetto wines that best express the La Morra terroir in central Piemonte. Their “Cerequio” Barolo is loved for being not-overly-structured and with tannins that soften over time, yet the wine can lay down for decades. This is a wine you can open and enjoy in 2025 with rapture.
The nose has distinctive floral notes of roses and the sweet spiciness of carnations, with grande ripe red fruits like Italian plum, black cherries and blackberries on the palate. This Barolo has years to go before it peaks. Open this big vino an hour or two before you share it with good friends over a fine meal.
Expected maturity: 2014-2025
Food pairing: Pair this concentrated and elegant Barolo with Piemontesi classics like beef carpaccio (try it with Insalata di Carne Cruda), beef braised in Barolo (Brasato al Barolo), or rabbit marinated & cooked with red wine, vegetables and herbs (Lepre in civet). It’s perfect with dry-aged rib eye and New York steaks with a bit of fat on them, grilled rare over hot coals.
Visiting Voerzio: This is definitely a winery you want to visit while in Barolo country — and the Voerzio family will gladly open their tasting room to you if you call ahead. Call them to book a time at +39.0173.509.196 or send them a note on their website.
