Michael's Notes:

Situated just 5 minutes out of the northern Chianti Classico town of Greve in Chianti, Villa Vignamaggio has been producing wines for over 300 years.

The modern winery & guest houses were built in 2010, and the wines are aged in the historic 15th-century building which offers ideal conditions for maturing in the classic way. In 2014 the estate began changing over to organic farming methods, alongside work to recover old grape varieties like occhiorosso.

Their lineup of wines include Chianti Classico normale, a riserva called Gherardino, and a Gran Selezione called Riserva di Mona Lisa — give them all a taste to understand the influence of the terroir in this area.  Note that they use some Merlot and Cabernet Franc in their riserva, and make bottlings of these international varieties.  If they have it available, give their delicious Vin Santo a try.

Vignamaggio offers a complete wine country experience for those wanting to stay a few nights, have meals made from locally sourced ingredients, and learn about their winemaking history.  You can also book just a tasting event by contacting them by email.
