This is a biggy. Deep, rich and full-bodied with sweet tannins, I was blown away by this small-production Aglianico produced about an hour’s drive outside of Naples by molto gentile Alessandro Lonardo and his daughter Antonella.
The noise is a delight, but on the palate it will amaze: rich black fruits, violets, black olive, dried roses, a touch of 5 spice. The finish on this wine goes on and on. This is a super structured wine and will lay down for a good long while. If you’re a fan of big wines, this will not disappoint you.
Pair this with roasted meats like lamb scottadito, rich beef and venison stews, or not-too-lean pork chops grilled with herbes de provence.
