Frescobaldi needs no introduction in the Brunello world, and their CastelGiocondo Ripe al Convento Riserva bottling from 2003 is remarkable. The year was challenging for many producers, but this one stood out above the crowd.
This is a very dark and intense elixir, with sweet blackberries and cherries, violets, coffee, and Tuscan herbs intensely pronounced on the nose and palate. This is a powerful wine with refined tannins. Truly a delicious Brunello.
I received a very limited number of bottles of this superb Riserva Brunello, and I don’t expect them to last long. You can drink this today, or lay down for decades more in your cellar.
