The 2014 Barbera d'Alba from their Serralunga Francia vineyard continues the legacy of big, mineral-driven Barbera, with ripe red cherries, plums, anise & sage notes. There's plenty of minerality and bracing (but pleasant) acidity. Much like the 2013 vintage, the 2014 release is masculine and powerful.
I'd let this one rest for a few years if you can resist the tempation. Conterno fans who can't wait surely can pop the cork and enjoy. I'd pair with something rich and fatty, like an insalata di carne cruda (think steak tartare), lamb stew, grilled veal chops, or even barbecued baby-back ribs.
